Insects
Insects are members of the Class Insecta, the largest Class of the Phylum Arthropoda. Insects are the most diverse group of organisms, meaning that the numbers of species of insects are more than any other group. In the world, some 900 thousand different kinds of living insects are known. This representation approximates 80 percent of the world's species. Insects have segmented bodies, jointed legs, and external exoskeletons. An insect has their body, which is divided into three major regions: (1) the head, which bears the mouthparts, eyes, and a pair of antennae, (2) the three-segmented thorax, which usually has three pairs of legs (hence “Hexapoda”) in adults and usually one or two pairs of wings, and (3) the many-segmented abdomen, which contains the digestive, excretory, and reproductive organs. Numerous insects play essential roles as natural enemies, including predators and parasitoids that act as biological control agents in agricultural landscapes.
Bangladesh possesses a rich and varied insect diversity, heavily influenced by its tropical climate and diverse ecosystems like forests and agricultural lands. A total of 2,470 different species of insects was studied and identified over a period of 30 years. Out of 29 Orders 20 were listed (Bhuiya and Mozumdar, 2016).
